Phil Masi Chicago White Sox Game Used Jersey 1951 with American League Patch
This is a game used flannel jersey from former Chicago White Sox catcher Phil Masi. Masi wore this jersey for two seasons, in 1950 and 1951. The jersey has a “Set 1 1950″ tag on the interior of the jersey. The jersey also features the American League Golden Anniversary patch from 1951. These two factors can date the jersey to those two seasons. The jersey also has “Masi 38″ stitched into the neck under the MacGregor tag. The jersey shows great use with some light discoloration around the neck. The jersey also comes with a pair of flannel pants made by Powers. The pants appear to be original to the jersey, but there are no player identifiers to be certain. The jersey is missing the zipper, which should be able to be easily restored if so desired. Masi was a 4x All-Star. He played for the Boston Braves, Pittsburgh Pirates, and Chicago White Sox. Masi is best known for his controversy in the 1948 World Series, when Cleveland Indians Hall of Fame pitcher Bob Feller attempted to make a pick off attempt on Masi at second base. Masi appeared to be out, but was called safe. The next batter for the Braves would hit a single and Masi would score the winning run. Before he died, Masi admitted that he should have been called out. Phil Masi Batting Stats for Years 1939 to 1952.
