This is a rare 1972 Milwaukee Brewers road jersey, made by Spalding and I believe worn originally by John Felske. There is a Spalding tag inside the tail, with the 72 year tag. This was the last year for Spalding supplying years for the Brewers. The number 59 is not a roster number, so it was probably worn in Spring Training, possibly in the minor leagues. If you look closely is appears that the “5” replaced a 3, while the 9 was sewn on at a different time and appears to be original. The photos show “BREWERS” and the 9 with the same stitching, while the stitching for the 5 is different. That would make the original number 39, which was worn by John Felske. The 5 was added later and saw a lot of wear as well based on the puckering of the numbers on the front and back. There was originally a tag in the collar with the player name. The tag has been removed. This seems to have been a common practice; I have not seen an example of a 1972 Brewers road jersey that still has the collar tag.
