For your consideration is a 1976 New York Mets dugout jacket attributed to longtime popular Mets player Wayne Garrett. The jacket was manufactured by Aladen, a New Jersey based company which made jackets for both the Mets and Yankees back in the 1970s. They did a handful of other teams as well but the Mets and Yankees used them exclusively for quite a while. Garrett was one of the handful of players to have been on both the 1969 and 1973 Mets World Series teams. Garrett played in only 80 games for the Mets in 1976, having been traded to the Montreal Expos on July 21st of that year. As such, the jacket exhibits only light wear and is in overall fine condition. It probably only got regular use in April and May of 1976 (the colder months of the season) and likely was seldomly used in June and July. Signs of use are as follows: The metal hang chain is disconnected on the right side and can probably be re-connected. Their are three small stains on the front of the jacket (please see photos) and a couple very small snags in the material… One is noticeably present underneath the inside Aladen tag in the orange material (see photos). The knits are in excellent minty condition, as is the chenille interlocked NY crest on the front of the jacket. There is some yellowing of the white tackle twill material beneath the Aladen tag and some slight fraying of the Aladen tag in the lower left hand corner (see photos). The Aladen tag has actually come loose from the metal grommet in the lower left hand corner. Buttons are in great shape with minimal loss of paint… Just a few flecks of metal are visible (see photos). Pockets are made of cotton twill and are in great shape structurally but show some yellowing from age. Garrett wore a size 40 jersey so the size 42 jacket is consistent with what he would have worn for a jacket (one size up from his jersey size). Specifically to the Wausau Mets, the A – ball Midwest league affiliate for the Mets at the time (1975 to 1978). This jacket was obtained from a Wausau Mets employee in the early summer of 1977 prior to it being recirculated to a member of that club. Garrett’s uniform number 11 is visible in faded black marker underneath the tagging. These jackets are incredibly rare and especially so in this condition. Overall condition of this piece is outstanding! A few words on how I priced this. Charles was traded prior to this style jacket being worn.
