1968 Chicago Cubs game worn used flannel home pinstripe jersey of starting second baseball and Cub favorite Glenn Beckert. Made by Wilson and fully tagged with original tagging in collar 18-68-2-40. 18 for player number, 68 for year, 2 for set 2, and 40 for player size. Typical for the Cubs in 1968, two Wilson tags in tail. One with a size 40 tag and one with a set 2 1968 tag. The original number 18 on the back remains in untouched condition. This jersey has had the front Cubs logo patch, the Cubbie Bear sleeve patch and the 1968 Illinois Sesquicentennial patch all re-sewn back on the jersey. They are the original patches that were removed to be used a Duluth MN semi pro team but kept with the jersey. The patches were re-sewn professionally in the exact outline that remained. The Illinois Sesquicentennial patch is a vintage original patch that was simple reapplied. Overall condition of the jersey is outstanding with some slight piling of the flannel which is to be expected from a seasons worth of usage. The number 18 on back has some loose stitching but is firmly anchored. Included is a 8 x 10 photo of Glenn Beckert taken in 1969 spring training wearing what appears to be this exact jersey due to the alignment of the pinstripes. This jersey is one of several Cubs jerseys that were sent down or repurposed for use by another team which makes it easier to understand the scarcity of 1960’s Cubs game worn jerseys. Glenn Beckert won his only Gold Glove award during the 1968 season. He was a four time All Star and a key player on the 1969 Cubs. This is one of only a couple of known Glen Beckert game worn used jerseys.
