Offered for sale is a rare flannel baseball jersey from one of the finest pitchers of baseballs golden age – lefty Billy Pierce. The wash and year tags have been removed, so it is unclear which year he wore this jersey, however the collar tag remains, indicating the jersey belonged to Pierce. The numbers and GIANTS lettering are all original with no signs of alterations. The jersey shows good use with a few minor stains here and there. A classic home style from one of the generations best pitchers, this is a rare opportunity to own this outstanding item. Pierce spent 13 seasons as a mainstay in the White Sox pitching rotation, winning a total of 186 games during that time. He still holds the White Sox record for most strikeouts by a pitcher. He was twice named the Sporting News Pitcher of The Year and made 7 All-Star Game appearances. He remains 1 of just 11 players whom the White Sox have paid tribute to by retiring his number. Billy also played for the Detroit Tigers and the San Francisco Giants, winning World Series with each team. He was a seven time All Star and is a candidate for the Baseball Hall of Fame via the Veterans Committee. Billy Pierce still holds the White Sox franchise record for career strikeouts at 1,796, and his club marks of 186 wins, 2,931 innings and 390 starts are team records for a left-hander. The White Sox retired his number 19 in 1987, and unveiled a statue in his honor at U. Cellular Field in 2007 (see above photo of Pierce next to his statue); he was also selected to the White Sox All-Century Team in 2000. Please feel free to message me if you have any questions.
