1980 California Angels Brian Downing game used Jersey Los Angeles Size 42
This is a 1980 Game used Brian Downing Jersey. It has seen very little use. 1980 was the year that Brian Downing broke his ankle/foot and was out for a good portion of the season. This is a Wilson jersey size 42. This thing is gorgeous!!! It can be worn and is in superb condition. The fabric and stitching is strong. The “9” on the back has been restored. My Collecting History: – I was once well-known in the jersey collection circles dating back to the early 1990’s. I ran a jersey restoration business. I sort of fell into this business because back in the day when I couldn’t afford the higher-end items, I had to take a different path if I was going to be able to collect these wonderful pieces of history, so I started searching the junker bins, and learning how to restore. At the time, there wasn’t the huge marketing machine that there is now. Most of the time it is for charity, but sometimes not. I found many really cool jerseys in the junker bins and they were all in various stages of disrepair. Missing patches, missing lettering (all or only a few), busted seems, so forth and so on. In the process of recycling they would remove names and numbers. They would sometimes even remove whole team names if they were recycled to the minors as the minor league team had, on many occasions, the same color pattern as the parent team. The thing about these jersey’s though, is that when lettering/numbering is removed, one can clearly discern the outline of the original stitching. Which gave me a lot of information that I needed to restore. Many teams also embroider the original users name, size, and number on the tail. It was fun to research! On several occasions I was able to correct bad information at Baseball Almanac regarding a player’s number when I had that particular players jersey right in front of me. I have found some real gems worn by some stars over the years. At one collectibles show, I met a former employee from R. Liebe and we struck up a friendship. If you what/who R. J Liebe is, then you are a true collector!! She was an accomplished uniform designer and she helped with my restorations and the cottage business was born. We worked to restore many jerseys EXACTLY as they were in their glory. We used all the correct period materials save the new thread. If we needed a specific patch we would track down an authentic patch from a period jersey that was otherwise useless. At that point I owned in the range of 300-400 jerseys. It is time another collector and/or Angels fan can enjoy these. These will mostly be Angels Jerseys. That is who I grew up watching!! – Some of the highlights will be. 1980 Brian Downing (#9 year he broke his foot). 1972 Sandy Alomar little? Second year VERY SCARE/RARE!! At 50 I have only ever seen two examples of the 1972 jersey in my entire life. 1969 Ken Tatum (rookie, with centennial patch). 1971 Jim Fregosi custom made, one-of-a-kind replica, little? 1966 #6 Angels Jersey Unused, BRAND NEW, never worn by anybody, the most gorgeous thing EVER!!!!! My most cherished jersey. Plus about 20-30 other Authentic milestone Angels (and a few other teams), non game-used, jerseys covering the last 45 years. I make ZERO exceptions. 1969 California Angels Ken Tatum Game Used Flannel Jersey Los Angeles
This is a 1969 Flannel Ken Tatum, Game used Rookie Jersey. This is his original rookie jersey. Those framiliar with his story know that one pitch effectively ended two baseball careers. At the time, he finished his first season with a 1.36 ERA. Then he hit Paul Blair and that changed everything.. It effectively ended both of their careers.. Peter Gammons wrote of the effect he believed the Paul Blair beaning may have had on Tatums pitching career. From May 31, 1970, until his major league career ended in 1974, Tatum had a 3.95 ERA and allowed 1.14 homer per nine innings. After he retired, he admitted he pitched with the fear that I might kill someone. I could never pitch on the inside half of the plate again. And we all know what happens to a pitcher that can’t pitch inside anymore. This was a junker bin find that was completely striped-down (presumably to go to the minors). The only thing remaining was the information on the tail, the neck/size label, and the red/navy trim. The lettering was all matched perfectly to the original Angel specs using the stitch outline already present as a start and other authentic Angel Uniforms from the era as a template. The stitching is perfect and each stitch has been fussed over. The anniversary shoulder patch is a new reproduction that matches the original EXACTLY! – This thing is gorgeous!!! – My Collecting History: – I was once well-known in the jersey collection circles dating back to the early 1990’s. From the Heritage description: 1964 Lenny Green Game Worn Los Angeles Angels Jersey. Long before the Dodgers and Angels arrived Los Angeles, the city had developed a deep affection for the game of baseball thanks to its beloved Pacific Coast League. As such, it came as no surprise when owner Gene Autry named his expansion Los Angeles Angels team after the Pacific Coast League franchise of the same name. Seven-button-front (one missing), home white flannel jersey displays with “Angels” arched across the chest and “26” on the verso, all sewn-on in thick, red and black felt. Black/red/black piping adorns the collar and sleeves, with “Tim McAuliffe, ” 44″ and “64 tagging in the front tail. The front identifier was put back on after a minor league stint with the San Jose Bees, of which remnants of that name are still visible. Exhibiting wear, this is a fine exemplar from the final season of the Angels short residency in Los Angeles. LOA from Heritage Auctions. Also note photos of spotting in front/top. California Angels Game Used and Team Issued Helmets 1995 Road & 2006
The older, navy blue road helmet is game used and has a date code of February, 1995. The red newer helmet is in mint condition and has a date code of (I believe as it’s under a warning tag) of December, 2006. There’s only one year number legible. Anyway, other information is as follows.. The navy blue 93-96 road version is a size 7 1/2 and the helmet is a M (Medium) shell size. It has extensive use, including old pine tar and other obvious signs of use. No cracks or serious issues. Pads are intact but a little of the ear pad lining is loose as shown in a photo. Also in photos you can see the American Baseball Cap (ABC) tag with the size. The back of the helmet shows the MLB logo and the painted on logo of ABC. There is no player ID on this helmet but it is obviously a gamer. I’ve had it since around 1996. The red helmet is a size 7 3/8 and is also a M (Medium) shell size. I emphasize this because ABC, for the most part issued M size shells to MLB. Retail pieces came in L (Large) size shells. It is in virtually mint condition and is and ABC/RAWLINGS helmet. Although I believe the same molds were used, the older helmet is made in USA and the red one in China. I have been collecting for over 35 years but have recently retired… So I’m letting go of some my collection of game used and team issued jerseys, bats, caps and other items. Nothing fantastic but still some pretty neat items from the past. Please ask questions that the photos don’t answer. The item “California Angels Game Used and Team Issued Helmets 1995 Road & 2006″ is in sale since Monday, July 23, 2018. 1971 California Angels Jim Fregosi Flannel Jersey one of a kind Los Angeles
This is a 1971 Flannel Jim Fregosi Replica. It is basically new. I wore it once to game 6 of the 2002 World Series. It was custom made from authentic materials. It started with a blank jersey, was tailored to a 42-44 chest, then assembled with the greatest of care to detail and materials. The trim and patch were all salvaged from old authentic period uniforms, and the lettering is new material made to spec. The lettering was all matched perfectly to the original Angel specs using what was left as a template. The stitching is perfect and each has been fussed over. This is an EXTREMELY rare/uncommon/scarce jersey that was ONLY USED FOR ONE YEAR. The small “a” was only used two years 71-72. In 1971 the jerseys were flannel; in 1972 they made their switch to polyester. I have never held an authentic 1971 jersey in my entire life. I have only ever seen one in a museum. This thing is gorgeous!!! It can be worn and is basically in new condition. My Collecting History: – I was once well-known in the jersey collection circles dating back to the early 1990s. 1972 California Angels Sandy Alomar game worn jersey very scarce Los Angeles
This is a 1972 Rawlings Sandy Alomar game worn jersey. It was restored to its current beauty. This one had most all of the team lettering removed, and only the under-layer of blue was left in “ALOMAR” on the back. The sleeve patch is original and has never been removed. I have only ever held one other example in my entire life, and I’ve been around a while! – This thing is gorgeous!!! The piece is solid and in very good condition. I would not wear it due to its historic nature and value, but it is solid enough to be worn. My Collecting History: – I was once well-known in the jersey collection circles dating back to the early 1990s. I ran a jersey restoration business. I fell into this business because back in the day when I couldnt afford the higher-end items, I had to take a different path if I was going to be able to collect these wonderful pieces of history, so I started searching the junker bins, and learning how to restore. At the time, there wasnt the huge marketing machine that there is now. The thing about these jerseys though, is that when lettering/numbering is removed, one can clearly discern the outline of the original stitching. Which gave me a lot of information that I needed to restore. Many teams also embroider the original users name, size, and number on the tail. It was fun to research! On several occasions I was able to correct bad information at Baseball Almanac regarding a players number when I had that particular players jersey right in front of me. 1972 Sandy Alomar (little a second year) VERY SCARE/RARE!! At 50 I have only ever seen two examples of the 1972 jersey in my entire life. 1969 Ken Tatum (rookie, with centennial patch). 1971 Jim Fregosi (custom made, one-of-a-kind replica, little a first year, got the idea to make this while restoring the Alomar jersey).
