Following Bobby Murcer’s death on July 12, 2008, the team decided to honor his memory during Old-Timer’s Day the very next afternoon – a day Murcer held in high regard. Before the Old Timers took the field for their exhibition game, Yankee Stadium held a tribute to their fallen hero – this very jersey can be seen on the scoreboard screen while a moment of silence was offered in Murcer’s memory. This Majestic, size 46 NY Yankees pinstripe jersey, with Murcer’s original number “1” on back, was on display in one of the dugouts during the Old Timer’s Game. The collar is tagged. Murcer 1 46 08. With the 2008 All-Star Game and Final Season at Yankee Stadium patches on the sleeves. The black armband on the left sleeve was introduced that very day in honor of Murcer – it would be worn by the Yankees for the rest of the season. According to the NY Times, this very jersey was presented by Derek Jeter, Andy Pettitte and Joe Girardi to Murcer’s widow Kay at his memorial service in Oklahoma on August 2, 2008.
