This is an extremely rare jersey. Produced in either 1970 or 1971 based on the Rawlings tag, this jersey may have been an early prototype for the Pittsburg Pirates. The difference between this jersey and the ones they wore in 1971 – the sleeve stripes are reversed! I was able to find a photo of Roberto Clemente wearing a jersey just like this one with the sleeve colors reversed. I have attached it to this listing so that you can see for yourself. The jersey itself is amazing. Shows good use and is all original. Al Oliver wore #16 from 1970 – 1977, so it’s possible that this jersey may have been made for him. It’s a size 42, which is the size that he wore back in the early 70’s. However, since I was unable to find any photos of Oliver wearing this particular jersey in a game, I can not say that it was game used. Oliver was a star with the Pirates in the 70’s – winning 3 Silver Slugger Awards, a Batting Title, was a 7x All-Star selection, and won the World Series with the Pirates in 1971. Please feel free to message me if you have any questions about this truly unique jersey.
