The Las Vegas Stars were a Minor League affiliate for the Padres who played from 1983 through 2000 in the Pacific Coast League. During their second and third seasons (1983 and 1984), the team wore uniforms that have become iconic in they eyes of collectors today. Two versions of this style exist – one with a white body and one with an orange body. I’m not sure about the white version, but the orange came in two different fabrics — either a lighter “fishnet” style or a heavier solid Polyester body. The jersey offered here is the orange body style, made from heavy solid Polyester. This fabric is very durable, and the colors remain deep and vibrant. The shirt reflects heavy game use, mainly in the form of tiny “pulls” found throughout the body. The largest issue is a four-inch fabric pull neat the front left tail, as highlighted in the photo. There are a couple of pulls on the back of the jersey near the numbers, likely due to the numbers being re-positioned higher sometime along the way (at one time the jersey’s number were likely lower, allowing for the player’s name to be sewn across the back). This scarce, vintage style doesn’t appear in the hobby very often as most have long been absorbed by private collections. This amazing example would certainly be a welcome addition to any Minor League, Las Vegas or Padres collection!
