We are pleased to present this quite scarce style of Atlanta Braves pregame/Spring Training jersey, circa 1981-82. It was worn by fan-favorite pitcher Al Hrabosky, who was known as the Mad Hungarian. We are fortunate to have found photo matches of Hrabosky wearing this very shirt. Tagged as a size 42, the shirt measures approx. 22 inches across from pit to pit, and approx. 29 inches in length from the top of the shoulder to the bottom of the front tail. The “Braves” name is screened across the front of the shirt, while Hrabosky’s number 39 is screened across the back. The Braves briefly used this style of shirt in the early 1980s, which included a nameplate across the back with large, heat-pressed letters. Upon closer inspection, one nameplate wasn’t long enough to fit Al’s last name, so a second nameplate was added to fit the “KY” on the end! Most jersey collectors love the quirks often found on older shirts, such as the “KY” nameplate found here. Another feature, which allowed us to conclusively photo match this shirt being worn by Hrabosky, is the slight “bleed” of screened letters. Several large photos of Hrabosky wearing this jersey can be found on Getty, including a close-up portrait. The bleed of the “Braves” letters, along with the alignment of the mesh holes, are a dead ringer! The jersey shows overall light wear, and the colors are still deep and vibrant. This scarce gem will surely be a welcome addition to any MLB or Braves collection!
