For your consideration is an all-original California Angels game worn jersey, used by bullpen coach Mike Roarke in 1968 and 1969 (he held this position with the Angels from 1967 through 1969). The jersey shows even, moderate to heavy use from its two years of service. Two additional tags (size tag and wash instructions tag) are found in the left tail, along with “Roarke, ” “42, ” and “68” embroidered with dark thread. Tagged as a size 42, the shirt measures approx. 22 inches across from pit to pit, and tapers to approx. 20 inches across at the stomach. The length is approx. 33 inches from the top of the shoulder to the bottom hem. The piping at the ends of the sleeves remains just about perfect, as does the “ANGELS” name sewn across the front and the number “21” sewn on the back… Perhaps a bit of light fading. The biggest scar on this shirt is a hole found on the front left shoulder, which is pointed out in the seventh photo — this kind of hole might happen from a metal cleat as the bullpen coach helps a pitcher stretch his leg! FYI, there’s also a straight spot of dirt on the right side of the shirt, which also looks suspiciously like it came from a cleat. We know this jersey first saw use in 1968, thanks to the year “68” embroidered in the tail… But we also know it was used in 1969, thanks to an original MLB 100th Anniversary patch that still securely rests on the left sleeve! It’s difficult to find a jersey from this era that was spared from minor league use, as well as the alterations that go along with such use. In this case, you get a shirt that looks exactly like it did the last time Mike Roarke took it off in 1969! This gem would be a welcome addition to ANY baseball collection.
