This is a gold vest style Kansas City A’s jersey originally worn by Haywood Sullivan in his last year as an active player. The Wilson size 44 jersey originally had the number 8 per the strip tag in the tail, which was Haywood Sullivan’s number. He retired mid year, and the jersey was changed to #9, which was worn by several players in 1963, but Tommy Reynolds was the only player near Mr. Sullivan’s size, so it was probably his jersey at the end of the season. This was a one year style – in 1964 the A’s started using McAuliffe as their supplier. This was the first year of the green and gold color scheme. The A’s often sent their jerseys down to the minor leagues for additional use, although I don’t know if this happened with the 1963 jerseys. The jersey appears to be unrestored, with the numbers and logo showing signs of multiple laundering. All sleeve and collar piping is intact and looks original. There is no name on the back, but there are holes and repairs from the letters having been removed. The jersey is clearly well used but other than the holes in the NOB area is undamaged and unstained. Comes with a Grey Flannel LOA.
